Elizabeth II and modern British Monarchy never interested me ...I'd MUCH rather see a Netflix series on Churchill, who was far more important to Britain and the 20th Century. It's very hard to watch a series about someone who's biggest struggle she is the fricking Queen of England...
At least some of the old time, British monarchs were insane and had to deal with revolutions and battles for the crown.

Exactly. I'm sure the modern stuff appeals to a more general audience who aren't as interested in history, but I'm absolutely uninterested in this. There is so much rich history with the British monarchy that would be infinitely more interesting. We saw some of it with shows like the Tudors, the white Queen, World Without End, and Pillars of the earth.

Elizabeth II is intriguing because she has been on the throne since 1952. She has seen a lot of shite and I think that is what might make the show interesting. Because their plan is to cover a decade of her reign every season.

I guess Netflix is trying to tap into the Downtown Abbey crowd.

As was her trail to even becoming Queen.

That's what I assume. Soccer moms and old people wouldn't be as interested in a drama about Edward III.

Bumping this
GF and I watched first two episodes. I had fairly low expectations.
I'm still not sure how much I care about the subject matter, but it's a phenomenally well made show.

I'm enjoying it. Was Prince Phillip really this much of a dick? He marries a royal and then gets mad when she has to do royal stuff.

Anyone else watching? I'm on ep 8

I just finished episode three. The acting and writing is phenomenal.

I don't think I have ever seen an actor so politely portray such compete and utter disdain for another human being as the Queen Mother and Edward scene in Episode 3. I really am enjoying this show much more then I thought I would.
