I have yet to see this film but is this the film that they talk about in "Sleepless in Seattle" where men always get weepy when watching?
EDIT: NVM, it is the "Dirty Dozen"

Only negative, if you can call it that, is that at times it seemed to whimsical or happy.
People used to be whimsical and happy once upon a time when it came to war.
Then society said you had to be all depressed, traumatized and morose about war.

It’s called laughing in the face of adversity. Knowing full well the seriousness of the situation yet still making light of it. I guess it’s a generation thing that is lost on kids today.
Plus it seems that the Brits are more culturally adept at than others. Or used to be. The old stiff upper lip attitude... knowing what needs to be done yet not being so obvious or overly dramatic about it.

I mean...one of the British 1st Airborne's company commanders carried an umbrella into battle at Arnhem. I feel like the music, while whimsical, does a good job at capturing the arrogance and hopefulness of the Allies to end the war by Christmas. Alas, it was not to be.

Lotta arrogance on both sides of the war, to be honest. Germans presuming Patton would be leading the charge for the D-Day invasion, never thinking the allied forces would be stupid enough to use him as a decoy.
Of course, Germany creating a Eastern Front with Russia when they had Europe won was as colossal a eff up as there has been in modern warfare. Maybe ever.

Im talking about the goofy, happy go lucky music that almost killed the vibe.
I enjoyed the jokes and laughing in the face of adversity as you say...especially the Brit commanders speech at the beginning. Wish i couldve saw more of him.

I love the music and have no idea where you get the idea it is goofy or "whimsical" - military march music - particularly of Western militaries is ALL like that.

And found and wore a bowler as well.

His real name ( and story ) is more outlandish than the Hollywood version.
Thanks for the bio post. Great stuff.
