There was this "navy seal" that scammed them out of 200k claiming he knew where Amy was and knew her tattoos and some other personal info about her. He plead guilty to fraud.
I thought I had remembered that from a podcast I listened to a while back on the case. Seems like a pretty big part of the story to leave out. I guess it was probably pretty humiliating for the family.

She just doesn't seem like the typical sex trafficking target for that explanation to make sense.
She liked drugs and got tied up with the wrong dude. He sold her into sex and moved her among several island - her being on different islands was corroborated by several people who all didn't know each other. Too many people had credible stories for me to think she fell off the ship.
Also...that’s 10,000% her on that adult website - that for me was what swayed my opinion on what happened.
The one cruise ship worker (the PA announcer) is a fricking a-hole and seemed very callous about this whole thing.

Can you just walk off a ship at 6am when docked? I thought they had set times you could leave? Or once it is docked you can come and go as you please until it departs?
From what I recall, there may be a process in some ports (e.g., if you're going on an early excursion, you are first in line). Also, there generally is some sort of check out/check in process. You generally can't just walk off without anyone knowing.
Maybe it was different back then.

I've been cruising since the early 90s with RC. It wasn't, you weren't getting off the boat by walking off no matter if you are on a ship excursion or just going explore by yourself without carding off the ship. If she was with a ship excursion, that would have been tracked by the ship as well.
The crew member would have done the same if he wasn't working. It would have to be a big conspiracy by the guys working the cargo on/off loads. Someone would have talked.

Probably because of the editing to make him look this way, since this was a very pro family doc.
She was a 23 year old woman and she hadn't been seen for that long. They would have barely had time to even look for her on that ship when they went to report they couldn't find her.
This is in the age before everyone had smartphones. Think about going up to the help desk because you couldn't find your adult child in 30 minutes at 6AM in the morning. They aren't going to be very keen to tear apart the ship and start doing PA blasts because you didn't look for her at the breakfast bar.
They were so adamant something happened to her and refused to think of anything besides sinister outside forces, it just makes me lean even more into something happened on that balcony.

One of the details that they supposedly left out was that they didn’t come back to the room on their own that night. Earlier accounts said the father woke up, got dressed and went to get them to come back. Would make sense based on how protective they seemed. Now if that’s true I’m not sure why that detail would be left out. But that would lend some credence to the theory that an altercation/argument within the family went on that night once they got back to the room. Especially if Amy was drunk.
I hadn't seen that discussed before. I did some limited searching and found some reddit messages about the brother giving interviews that the dad came out earlier in the night and checked on them. They told him they were fine and dancing/having a good time and he was fine with it and went to bed.
I couldn't find the interview. That seems like something that should have been in the documentary as well. Clarification on what and when this check in happened.
