I haven't really watched until tonight's episode, but there was something off or annoying about every contestant that sang tonight, IMO.

Did I hear RS correctly, that they will eliminate all but 5 based on last night's votes? The judges will bring back 1 wild card boy and 1 girl, so we will be down to the top 12 after this week?

That's a little harsh. America hasn't seen enough to cut that deep. Don't they usually eliminate 2 guys and 2 girls for 3 weeks to get from 24 to 12?

My top 5:

If based solely on last night:
Casey Rogen-Farrell
James Durbin-Lambert
gay black fatty
Paul
Scotty One Hit - He was good at what he did.

If based on everything I've seen:
Replace Scotty with Tim the Piano Man.

Right. But why didn't they use them last night? Musicians (not singers) perform better with instruments. People like Tim Halperin, who will probably be gone, and Paul McDonald are so much better when playing.

probably so. They're trying to set up certain losers to win it all apparently. They were saying on the radio that the Dorsey guy from LA said last night that he was forced to sing that Usher song but they cut that part out from the airing.

That along with eliminating the mohawk piano guy before America could have a chance to keep him around, when he was the best talent they had, seems shady.

It's television. Never has been about the 'music'. Never will be.
Name 10 former idol contestants that are successful right now. I can't.

There have been between 150-200 contestants total in the combined "top 12's".

Again, name 10 with successful careers in music now.

It is all about television. Nothing more, nothing less.

Kelly Clarkston
Carrie Underwood
Adam Lambert
Chris Daughtery
David Cook
Jennifer Hudson
Jordin Sparks
Kelli Pickler
Clay Aiken
David Archuleta

I don't necessarily like any of these people, but they all have solid album sales.

The biggest problem is that the Top 2 or 3 from each season release these terrible, overproduced pop albums as their first release and fade fast.

ruben and fantasia have both had successful music careers as well. ruben didn't quite fit the idol audience for his music style he went with. fantasia is on her 3rd album and all have done well.

i think a few contestants are also on broadway, etc as well. 1 of them came back to perform last season i wanna say.

i get that, i just dont understand how loading up with 8 flamboyantly gay guys singing like women is going to make the show a bigger success than producing a legitimate talent like that piano mohawk kid. I can see maybe Brett Lowenstein drawin in the 10 year old girls that dont realize that he and Adam Archuletta suck each other's penises but they might as well just be having tryouts for a broadway musical this year.

Three things:

- Lowenstein reminds me of Richard Simmons.
- Paul McDonald moved around like Joe Cocker.
- Lusk is probably the best singer I've ever heard on Idol.

My original post asked for 10 that are relevant in music now..

I can think of 5 tops that can be considered relevant..

Carrie Underwood of course being the supreme anomaly ..doing what Simon said she would do on one of the episodes when she was a contestant..he said she would not only win, but she would sell more albums than any other idol..

Kelly Clarkson has had her ups and downs..she still my favorite by far and imo, the best singer

Daughtry had a great debut and ok follow but is slowing down..

A few of the girls have gone on to do good things on tv, commercials, broadway, etc...
but all in all, in the music industry, only a small handful have had success longer than a year out from the show..
