I liked season one the most, thought that Dylan McDermott did a good job of maining the show. A lot of elements were in that season that have lacked since.
Season two was good, though it shot itself in the foot a few times here and there. Overall it was solid.
Season three seemed as if it's target audience was meant to be mid to late teenage girls. It's my least favorite, but I did enjoy the addition of Kathy Bates and the new Orleans element.
Season four has been alright, few spots here and there that has been iffy. Low end of solid though. Looking forward to the final episodes.

S3 was campy and fun. The girl power stuff got old at times, but it wasn't meant to be taken as serious as previous seasons.

Yeah, if that had been season 1 I would have given up and not bothered with the rest.
I'm enjoying season 4, the last episode had the high point of bringing back Sister Mary Eunice and tying in to season 2, but no Dandy sucked. Dandy is the best character yet.

Really?
I find him laughably bad most of the time.
* I do still have the last two episodes to watch though.

This season is an abortion. Horrible acting and even worse story lines.

I think so, yes. I find Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates to be the worst part of this season.

Hard to argue with that. To be honest the acting is generally pretty awful across the board the last two seasons.
I still have high hopes for S1 though, which I hope to watch over the holidays.

It amazes me that you've stuck with this show the last two seasons and haven't seen S1. It was by far the highest moment of this series, and it's the reason I'm completely devoted to this show and will watch whatever they put up each week.
Simply put, Murder house is the tits.

Have the feeling Season 2 is going to blow, thoughts?
When Season 2 debuted, I was influenced a little too much by some of the posters on this board and didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I did. Upon re-watching it on Netflix, it was a great season. Doesn't touch #1, but in my opinion, ties the greatness that is #4.
Coven was just bad. Started out all dark and twisted and they just tanked it hard. And they had gold in their hands with New Orleans, Voodoo, and witch craft...but they blew it big time. Tried for a campy, B-movie shtick and just missed. They wrapped up some angles way too quickly, others they just flat out dropped, and in the end, you had a mess of a show...that still was received well from the masses.
For me:
Murder House
Freak Show/Asylum
Coven

I guess it's maybe more the writing than the character. I find that this season, they seem to just do random, weird things solely for the purpose of being random and weird; not because they fit into the narrative or make any sense whatsoever.
I'm all for weird, creepy, scary shite happening when it's thought out and makes sense, but just making weird shite for the sake of being "WTF" isn't something that has ever resonated with me. It's the main reason I refuse to watch a movie like Eraserhead or things of that nature...while certain things like that (even things like Human Centipede or Cannibal Holocaust) at least make sense and try to be somewhat legitimate, sometimes fricked up people make fricked up things for no reason other than to be fricked up. And that's what I feel like the writers/creators are trying to do at times during this season.
I am enjoying the season somewhat though. Much, much better than last season.
