Did not know this about Amazon Prime...have had it for almost a year now and never use the streaming, but that is a nice benefit. We have all 3, but have considered cancelling Hulu. I HATE the commercials and no, paying the extra $4 isn't worth it since we don't use it too often. I don't like their interface either.
ETA Amazon's selection sucks. As others have said, go with it for other reasons.

Amazon's interface is painful through a laptop or mobile device but not bad through a gaming system.

is the prime, netflix, hulu combination on par with going the firestick + kodi route?
Yes, and the stick sucks, get the firetv.
People think Kodi can replace their cable. Yes you can watch pretty much every show that comes on tv, but you aren't going to watch it live. The live streaming isn't reliable at all. You aren't going to watch sports on it.
Kodi is basically a free DVR for everything but sports, and you have to wait until the next day to watch it.
Yes it has other functions, but few people would find it acceptable as a sole replacement to cable.

I am trying to cut the cable and I don't want to lose my ability to record saints and tigers games. So I am thinking of going with the tivo bolt and having prime, netflix, hulu, and maybe the HBO go monthly deal.
That sounds like $65/month, and you don't have sports channels like ESPN to watch tigers games or live tv other than locals, assuming you're getting an antenna. You still need Sling or Vue, and then you're at $85-100/month. Cable isn't that much more, if any.
Having a Tivo Bolt replaces Hulu by the way, and vice versa for the most part, other than sports.
Vue replaces your Tivo Bolt and Hulu.
Kodi replaces Netflix and Hulu.
You can get Kodi and Vue and have everything you need and had with cable, $34.99/month. Just need a FireTv.
