I'm not so sure he's getting scammed. It's more that he is totally delusional. Homegirl wants out of the Philippines, and he wants fairy tale love. He's blind to reality (that she is talking to 1000 other guys, trying to get her hooks into anything viable). The arrangement could work, but he's refusing to see it for what it is.
It grossed me out that he was so hell-bent on her being a virgin when he's clearly had sex at least twice in his life.

Yes and no. I think she was probably waiting on him to get over there before she decided if she only had eyes for him. I also don't think she's being honest about her purity. That being said, I do think she would be a loyal and dutiful wife if/when they get to that point. Right now, the only thing she loves about him is his big nose.
