Malzahn went from HS to the HC in a national title game in about 7 years.

Yeah but he was coaching hs for 15 years before even making it to college. Doug started coaching period in 2005.

I would bet there are a lot of great coaches stuck unable to rise up the ranks because the NFL is a club.

He was in the NFL as a player. That opened the door for him to get on an NFL staff. If he was just a regular high school coach he doesn’t get his first NFL gig.
Still a very impressive rise but he wasn’t just some high school coach who became NFL head coach in a decade
