how many Yanks prospects traded over the years have panned out?
Not saying Montero wont, but it seems they overhype their guys and then when its time to play ball, they are never as good as led on.

Trade rape
Yanks get one of the best young pitchers in baseball with tons of promise at age 22.
Mariners get a guy that has serious questions if he'll ever be an everyday catcher. The reason he was a top ten prospect in baseball the past two years was his position. His bat is great for C. If he's moved to IB/DH it's just above average. And that's just a projection considering he hasn't proven a thing at the MLB level.
I don't get why the M's do this

I'm not liking this at all for the Mariners

1) Sabathia
2) Pineda
3) Nova
4) Hughes
5) Burnett
Nova will be awesome next year. Hopefully the Yankees can win it.

This is just so wrong. His bat is projected to be special no matter where he plays. I know most the top prospect sites had the chances of him staying at catcher pretty low and still had him really high because of how special he could be at the plate/

Kuroda is easily better than those bottom 3

Much agreed. This deal is solid fir the Yanks. Once I put aside my homer thoughts, this deal makes us so much better.

right. HE's prob the best hitter in their lineup from day 1. Whether its C, 1B or DH

I wouldn't go that far....It was Pineda not Felix his ERA away from Safeco has been pointed out, but the Yanks aren't walking away with the title because of this deal

what were his road/home splits in the 1st half? any idea?

When it comes down to prospects, hitters > pitchers. No prospect is a sure thing, but hitters have a much better chance living up to the hype.
Disagree. High ceiling arms like Pineda are harder to come by than hitters.
Now, I will say that Montero's bad is special, but this is a great trade for the Yankees. Add in Kuroda, and this made my fricking month

Montero's bat was always worth the hype, and he'll prove that. It's him behind the plate is where he was/is doubted, especially in New York.

Hughes to the BP. Or maybe Burnett. Or both.
No idea where this leaves Garcia.

The Mariners really liked Montero and I think we should have tried to pry King Felix.
We did. We offered Montero/Betances/Banuelos and Seattle didn't even give a counteroffer for that.
If the Mariners wouldn't take that deal, they aren't going to take ANY deal out there.

Two more comments....
For Seattle: Noesi was a good get. I have a feeling he's going to be a pretty good pitcher in Safeco.
For New York: Campos is not just a "filler prospect" in this trade. Check out these numbers from Single A this year - "In 14 starts and 81.1 IP in the short season Northwest League, Campos struck out 85 and walked just 13."
Some exec said that he would've been a top 10 pick if he was in the draft this past year. High upside, and Mariner fans don't seem too thrilled about giving him up.
I'm excited about this deal.

The Yankees DO NOT NEED another power hitter. The Yankees NEED pitching, so yes, this transaction does make them better. There are so many other options to fill the DH spot, especially since Nunez is still on the team.
I didn't say we got the best pitcher from Seattle, but the Yanks did acquire a great young pitcher under team control.
I will admit, as soon as I read the news, my heart sunk. The anticipation of seeing Montero on opening day for the past 2 years is enough to make any Yankee fan upset at the fact he is no longer with the team.
But, realistically, this trade makes so much sense.
Yankees don't need to tie down the DH spot, when they have these aging players with stupid contracts who will not be able to play the field forever, i.e., AROD and Tex. It is a lot easier to have a platoon DH, than commit that spot to someone who is in fact, unproven for a full season, let alone 6 years.
Don't get me wrong, I would not have been this hyped over him if I didn't believe Montero was the real deal. But the Yankees needed pitching, and a solid number 2 with the addition of Kuroda> an above average power hitting DH (not catcher)
Hello Austin Romine and Gary Sanchez.
