love the East Coast, but not 1 media member in that region should have credentials/vote/or any kind of day when it comes to cfb.

It’s primarily a southern/Midwestern sport w pockets of interest out west

It is probably a little like asking a European who the best NASCAR drivers are. Maybe they know a famous name but they don't love watching the sport

Why didn't Miami win more in their 10 year dominance 1980s to the 90s, like Bama was racking up Heismans, playing catch-up in their recent run?

As always situational you have to look at the given years. But can you think of anyone that should have won? Willis McGhee in 2002 is really the only one I think should have and Torreta should not. Similar to Bryant’s teams at Bama their best players we’re usually on defense

And then there's politics. This has never historically been a Southern award.

Southerners won the award...but yeah, the segregated SEC hurt the South with the media.

I mean, if you're not playing the best...how can you be the the best? Alabama did itself no favors being a regional giant but continually losing to Notre Dame and USC.

In the 1960s/70s...Midwest/West football was considered king...they had the best black athletes at the time.

So it's "not a Southern award" is antiquated and points to a specific period in CFB.
