I won 80 bucks on my friends tonight.

6 hours of grinding it out. 8 guys. 10 total buy-ins. 2nd place gets his money back. Scrub.

And he's considered by many (not just Normand) the best holdem player alive. Personally, i think it's Negreanu.

FWIW the mixed event looks awesome.

Too hard too say who is the best. It could be a lot of different people on any given day. Unless you put every player in the same situations vs the same players you could never really tell.

that just started 5 1/2 hours ago so don't read too much into that yet as they only follow known players early.

Way too often players or fans annoint a particular player as the best in the game. Most of the time the best player in the game is whoever is the hottest at the time. Daniel looks like a genius at times from his reading ability but really what he is best at is using logical reasoning better than most. The same was said about Marcel Luske after he called out the guys pocket K's in the 03 ME. I have good friends who have won 6 figures in tournaments who played good, not great. I've also played with guys at lower limit tables who have made plays I haven't thought of making before and really impressed me, so to me it all changes on a day to day basis. Gabe Kaplan was ready to crown Tom Dwan the next Stu Ungar after 1 session of High Stakes Poker and many professional players were ready to crown him the greatest in the world because he had a really good half year in high stakes while playing ultra aggressive. Fact is he isn't the best and will probably be the next Gus Hansen in the cash game circuit. Most of the guys who make a ton of money in this game are either running sponsored sites or guys you have heard little or nothing about. Chip Reese was probably the most successful of all time in strictly poker and most who watched poker on TV till 04 had never heard of him. This is the way it is with a lot of the guys who are very well off from Poker. They have no gambling itch, they care very little about sports betting or table games, and they can grind better than any other. That's who wins at this game long term.

Managing your bankroll properly IMO is a very important aspect of the game

It's everything. If you are a winning player you will get beat from time to time but over the course of 6 months to a year you will come out winning. Players who do this successfully for years are the guys who can plan ahead for the rough months and not blow their load on the months they are winning.

As of late this has become my problem. I take a bad beat, get pissed, go on tilt and before I know it I have bought back in a couple of times. Another weakness is the blackjack tables

You are far from alone. Honestly this isn't a bad thing if you are a recreational player. Taking nothing away from your skill level but you don't depend on the money to pay bills. Some of the time you can make a come back and break even or win. For players who do it for their living you have to have set time and cash goals or you will get killed rebuying till you're broke.
