I wouldnt really change your game up in that situation because in the longrun you will come out on top. I always run into these people online. I might tighten up a little and basically just wait for them to bet into me when I am confident I have the best hand. Playing hands like they are playing is a recipe for going broke.

Also, you bet 40k after the flop acting first?

Start by addressing the first thing:
Good you realized this. I will CBet air with 2 callers max at even the tightest of tables. I will only do this if the players fit the mold to CBet for +EV. Getting into a habit of CBetting anything in any situation will kill you.
Poker is a game of adjustments. The best in the world are the ones who never play two tables the same. General rules of mathematical odds still apply to every situation though. You can Cbet heads up or 3 handed with air because the odds are still in your favor that both players airballed the flop and will fold. If 1 calls though you check turn and bet river with complete air only if draws missed and I would bet small on the last bet. Strategy for max value against these players is to only play winning hands. This does not just mean strong or nut hands. Against these players, extracting max value out of top pairs and getting good value bets in with middle pairs when you know they have the same but you have a nut kicker is the best way to destroy them. Bluffing a calling station with 3 barrels is a 100% way to go broke quick, as well as Cbetting pot sized bets on the flop.

Flop is 2-J-4 and I'm first to act and I bet 40k trying to take the pot down now. I should have checked.

How do you adjust your play to people like that?

They said Mike had agreed to pay him $5-10K per month to pay it off.

Me either. Would like to know the details. He made it sound like some guys were giving them a hard time for no reason? Seems weird.
