With Howard out, I'm extremely concerned about the 5 position for our natl team

He is the best 5 we have and he has the ability to let our athletic wings cause havoc on the perimeter.

I don't expect Bynum to ever play for our natl team due to his knees, so we are legitimately down to Tyson Chandler as our last true 5. He can fit the role (he doesn't offer the support on the boards, blocks, and offense that howard does but he offers just enough) but who backs him up?

Do we carry Griffin/Love/LA12 on the same roster and slide LA12 to the 5? Spain has the Gasol Towers and Ibaka and they have the advantage at the 5. They have proven already that they can hang with us/beat us.

Who else could we bring to international Play to man our 5 position ?

Flashpan for KG or DUNCAN? Javale McGee?

legit question

Seriously, watch some international basketball, it's different than the NBA.

Kevin Durant and Lebron James can, and have in the past played the 5 for us.

Then as you said, guys like Love and Griffin are also more than capable, and both fit the mold of a true NBA post player.

1. Chris Paul
2. Dwayne Wade
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Lebron James
5. Kevin Durant

I think the combo of Chandler/Griffin/Love would be fine. Not many other national teams have a dominant big man except for Spain with the Gasol brothers

Why not Bynum? he is having the best season of his career and he will be around stars who will calm him down and get him to play well. All he has to do is play defense and rebound and just be a presence.

If I was Bynun I would turn them down. This is his first fully healthy season so I wouldn't want to risk that

I agree. But honestly the only thing stopping him right now are possibly him and/or the Lakers from allowing him to go. His knees have held up fine so far this season

I honestly think that Howard's injury will put LaMarcus on the team. He's long & athletic, he can shoot, and he can rebound.

Other than Marc Gasol, are there really any other "big" 5's on the other international teams the US should worry about?

I personally wouldn't, but just because I think having a gold medal would be awesome regardless of who you are.

And really, who can compete with our top 5 all stars?

Tyson Chandler is the perfect international player.

I think he would be the same way, but this isn't going to be his only opportunity unless his knees keep giving way. He just had a strong, successful and healthy season, I wouldn't want to chance it. Who knows though? He still may join if they invite him.

Isn't Aldridge having surgery as well though? Might make him lenient to join as well

1. Why is he still involved? I mean aren't there younger guys, and why does he even still want to add the miles on his legs?

2. Why isnt there an age cap on basketball like soccer? Soccer in the Olympics is U-23 with 3 excemptions

The USA team will dominate regardness...it's going to be like an NBA team playing a bunch of college teams. I think the only team that would keep it within 20 points would be Spain..but without Rubio, who knows.
