This shouldn't impact lower tier bowls much at all.

They aren't making their money on on-sight sales. They have plenty of advanced notice to cancel event reservation and not get tied into long term contracts. They can fall dormant for a year a lot easier than an ongoing athletic program can.

There won't be football by the time bowl season rolls around. I predict football makes it to week 2 TOPS!

I don't understand this sentiment. It's football, if the match ups don't interest you then just don't watch.

If there were only about 20 bowls, then the better match ups would start sooner during the holiday season and we might not have 3 very good SEC vs Big 10 games on at the same time New Year's Day...

Florida State will have to rush schedule TWO rent-a-wins now to make a bowl with so few bowls left after COVID.

Why do people want less football? I get The Obscure Bowl featuring Podunk Tech vs Dink State may not be your cup of tea; so don't watch. I personally like having college football on almost every night in December. Never understood the hate for small bowls.

The whole point of bowls was for the tourism it brought to the cities
With no fans you might as well cancel them

While true originally, ESPN owns like 13 bowls. Those exist almost entirely for them to have cheap programming during the holidays.
