Why has Shaka Smart failed so miserably at Texas?

Thought that dude was gonna take Texas basketball to the next level after all the success he had at VCU. Since he’s been at Texas they’ve only made the tourney twice and didn’t make it out of the first round either time. Now they’re 12-5 getting beat by 40 against WVU and looking like they’re headed for another year with double digit losses. It’s not recruiting cause they’re always talented, so what is it?

last year was a rebuilding year for them. had a really good team the year before and lost a lot. they have a good program and coach

We got rid of 8 guys off last years team throughout year and with guys transferring out
