What other backups are out there that teams might be after. We know Seattle isn't going to take the cap hit for Flynn, and you know he wants to start. Who else is out there?

He was mediocre pre-harbaugh/Greg Roman but under his circumstances I cant fault him as much. He is one of the most consistent QB's there are in terms of Comp % and Int ratio. He is a reliable starter for a team that does not need Brady esque type QB play. He and Fitz would be a huge threat if they could figure out the running game. NO THANKS.
I'd keep him next year and see what you can get before his contract is up. Unless you get a late 1st rd or early 2nd rd pick for him this year. Even still the NIners have to address the back up to the back up this off seson IMO

His cap number next year is like 8.5 million I think. Why would they pay a backup that?

Thats a helluva back up and a decent salary for a shitty back up with no experience and what, half that? seems like a good short term solution. Again unless you can get great value I dont see the money factor overweighing the benefit of having him on the roster. If he was a locker room cancer then maybe.

I've been wondering about this too.
As long as it's cap friendly, you have a running QB. At some point, he will get blown up and will get hurt.
It only makes sense to have a good backup on the team.

In all seriousness though Anti, what the hell was that GB defense doing? Did they forget how to play the option and what any sort of contain/spy looks like

Dude no nfl team wants to pay 8+ million for a backup qb. You can can get a backup for way less than half of that.
Not to mention the return on a trade and the fact that you can get either another very good starter for that or 2 decent starters.

Guessing. Im no Dcoor but why would you not have a LB or Woodson creep up and play QB option? They really didnt make any 2nd half adjustments either.
In their defense though Gore had a great game in part because of the Kaep run threat. So its not like they could just key on the Zone read. Even if they did whos to say they dont pass block, run a zone read pass and torch their suspect corners and safeties in the mid range....oh wait.

Gore is a beast.

Trade him because he has value. That's value that can be used to upgrade your football team even more.
That's what New England does. And that's why they stay in the playoff hunt year in and year out.
