I think some of it has a lot to do with scouting reports, too. All the information that is available to pitching coaches about every batter their pitcher will go up against is crazy.

I think this is the reason you see so many guys come into the league and light it up for a couple of weeks and then take a big slide. Opposing pitchers and coaches learn their tendencies and how to get them out more efficiently.
