Why are fair/foul calls not reviewable in MLB?

Obviously, you really can't go back and call a foul ball fair but why can't you overturn a fair ball that was really foul?
(For those of you who know the reason I'm asking is bc this just happened in the cardinals/Cubs game, I have no idea if that ball was fair or foul)

I think they said they didn't review that one because it was right in front of the ump.

This game has gone to shite. The all star break can't get here soon enough. The division lead at the break might be super slim.

You actually can, it just has to be in the outfield

Couldn't Mattheny have still asked for it to be reviewed? Not sure if he had used his up or not but I doubt it
And no offense but I think you misunderstood something, that was close enough they would've reviewed regardless. In fact I'm almost certain Cards announcers said it was not reviewable

Could you explain why this is? Not sure why it would matter if infield or outfield

Probably the most frustrating game of the year thus far
I wish Mattheny would just get tossed for the hell of it at this point, umps have been awful for both teams all game

He understood correctly. The play in question was not reviewable because the fair/foul happened in front of the base umpire. Plays that happen in front of the umpire are not reviewable. Plays that happen in the OF behind the umpire are reviewable. It is extremely black and white. That's why there was very little argument from Matheny.
Pretty dumb rule, but that is the way it is. The umpires got the call correct also. It was fair and even if someone doesn't think it was there is absolutely zero chance the call would have gotten overturned.

Ok I stand corrected
And I agree there is no way it would've been overturned but I still couldn't tell one way or the other, but my first reaction was "oh for fricks sake that looked fair" so I guess that means my gut reaction was that it was fair
And that is a VERY dumb rule
