tips are typically made for 0-6 handicaps on most courses
even if i were lower....the distance still wouldn't fit me very well

were you planning on playing anywhere this weekend?

Do ya'll not play it down from the 1-ups?
Ever time I see "play it down" it's followed by "the tips".

i wish my weekend group would start playing it to the hole
they do gimme's which helps pace of play, but it doesnt prepare you to well for tournaments....i've seen guys accidentally scoop a 1' footer because they thought they didnt have to putt it

If you shoot 80s from the tips, why not play the 1-ups and try to break it? Now if you're shooting par or better, move back. No reason anyone should play the tips if they aren't a single digit handicap.

except the ones bragging about playing the tips

Yeah. My friends used to know that I would just putt everything. Ill pick up gimmes when I get paired up with randoms at MSU.

I see the people bragging about "playing it down from the tips" then post mid to high 80 scores
ETA: I shoot low 80s from the 1-ups and have no desire to move back 600 yards unless I start breaking 80 consistently.

my differential after shooting 82 from the tips wednesday was 6.4
my differential after shooting 78 from the 1-ups last weekend was 6.3
What sucks is that if I calculate course handicap, it only gives me one extra stroke from the back tees
Which is exactly why I don't play the blacks in my weekend group.....I know I'm more than 1 shot worse from the blacks

Agreed. I assess courses before I play and decide where to play.
I played the 3rd tees up at Spring Creek Ranch in Memphis (we had to for the event), it was still playing 6600 at 72.6/141.
I play worse from the 1-ups at MSU, though.

Too much power to not hit the tips.

WTF were the ratings for the other tees?

Ever thought about not hitting driver and trying to set up your approach to score?
Posted on 7/18/14 at 7:51 am to Croacka
Tipped out at 77.1/145.
Golden Bear did a job on that course. Nicklaus convinced the owner to build the course when they were both on a hunting trip together.

Never.
All I really wanna do is crush the drive. After that, things get very nerdy.
I only play weekends. So when I hit the ball, it's with tremendous power and energy.
Ask croacka. He felt the torque first hand, in his face.

your ball had so much sidespin on it, it created a tornado that took down 2 trailers in the trailer park next to 9 tee
