The Black Hose scandal of the 1910's really set back Presbyterian.

The Presbyterian Church has been the official Church of Scotland since the Reformation. The Blue Hose refers to the stockings warn by Scottish warriors.

Given I'm half Scottish I should probably know that but I didn't and I feel like shite.

I think its more accurate to say they ARE The Blue Hose, no idea about the mascot. Sorta like bama IS the crimson tide, their mascot is an elephant.

My alma mater and played football there. Yes, originally called the Blue Stockings or Sox, then hose. The Scot warrior is the unofficial mascot.

At least go with Blue Sox because Blue Hose is just short for Blue Panty Hose.

We actually watched Braveheart as a team at the movie theater back when it came out in the mid 90’s. Funny to see the whole Scottish thing come full circle. I graduated in 1997.
We’re in jeopardy right now of losing scholarship D1 football. Long story short, the board of trustees voted to move football to the Pioneer conference by 2021. This will eventually kill our program that’s been around for over a 110 years :(

It is actually pretty incredible that Presbyterian is in Division 1. In terms of enrollment, the college is about the same size as the local high schools.
...and oh yeah, it is sad that Presbyterian and Newberry no longer play each other in football.

I toured PC my senior year and loved it. Clinton is a pretty little town, almost equidistant between Columbia and Clemson. I had some good law school buddies who were PC grads. I hate to hear that.

I loved playing DII ball and the Bronze Derby was always an awesome game to play in. My junior year (1995) we played that game in the tail end of a tropical storm. Not fun.
I look back fondly at my time in Clinton, 1993-97 as I had an absolute blast. Played ball, fraternity, ROTC, and went to school out of state (I’m originally from Atlanta). The college isn’t the same as it used to be. If we lose scholarship ball, it destroys any diversity the school has and becomes nothing but a rich kid, suitcase school (it already is apparently) No one is going to pay $50k a year to play Club football.
A lawsuit was officially filed today against the school and BoT by PC alums. I still need to read the particulars, but it basically entails the deception of moving to a new conference and all of the funding and proceeds that were generated by the football program.
Nearly 3500 alum are on a closed Facebook page to discuss saving the program. That’s a lot of alums when your enrollment is only 1.2k a year

Why does moving to Pioneer Conference mean the end of PC football?
Posted on 11/29/17 at 7:54 pm to dlc83
The inability to field a team. Nobody goes to PC to play football without a scholarship. It's a very small school to begin with, and it is rivaled only by Wofford in producing (per capita) the state's lawyers and doctors. The tuition alone would be a disqualifier for low income and working class kids.
