Undrafted free agents in the NFL - what is the process?

As soon as the draft ends, are teams allowed to just sign any player they want in any order, or is there still some sort of organized process by which these teams pick up players?

They are free agents. I don't think any other explanation is needed

That is what I thought, but it seems like it would be pretty hectic for teams trying to sign these guys IMO.

They keep in contact with the guys they like
a lot of the teams use the 7th round to make calls to guys and express and interest in signing them as UDFA
