UAB is in the Southside area of Birmingham, adjacent to Five Points. 1st Ave is where things start to get rough and UAB's center (around University Blvd) is 8th Ave. It's not in as "cultural" an area as Tulane but it's pretty safe and certainly not third world.

Is UAB in a good part of Birmingham?

Legion field is, the UAB campus is on the southside which is the best part of the city.

Where is Bham on the new baseball stadium???

Not 100% sure I think the city agreed to buy land from UAB to help build the baseball stadium on and in return B'ham is closing down roads and stuff like that while the football stadium is built.

Funny you mention this as news was just released about the Downtown AA baseball stadium clearing a big hurdle

I know people rip on the UA BOT and Alabama fans for picking on poor little UAB football, but the BOT has actually supported UAB a lot with campus building and even helping with ahtletic budget shortfalls. Alabama fans aren't against UAB having a football program. They're against them bleeding UA dry for the funds to bail them out while bitching and complaining and biting the hand that feeds them. UA fans used to actually attend UAB basketball games at the BJCC during the 80s hay days and support the program until Bartow said the ugly, unprovoked things he did about Coach Bryant. UA fans turned on them after that and the ridiculous and childish way they've tried to steal the medical school from the main campus. I'm actually happy for them if they make it happen with their own funds. The UAB campus and especially the med school and med center are the shining crown jewels of downtown Birmingham.

FIFY

I lived on UAB's campus when I was 20/21 (didn't actually go to school there) and had a great time and never really worried about safety.

legion field though, on the other hand, is in a place that we wouldn't deliver pizza to after dark when I used to drive for Domino's.

*ETA* the rest of that response was towards the guy asking about the safe local of UAB, obviously you know how things are in that area Blzr
