Based on my opinion. Kobe will most likely go down as the best player of his era, depending if you include him in the same era as LBJ. Russell was not the best player of his era (granted he played at the same time as the greatest or 2nd greatest center of all-time). Russell was an unbelievable defender and rebounder, but he wasn't that well-rounded as an offensive player.

The two best players in the post-Jordan era have been Tim Duncan and Shaquille O'Neal.
The future belongs to Lebron James.
Kobe Bryant will not go down as the best player of ANY era, unless he wins a couple of titles.
If he fails to achieve a title with this frontline and bench, he does not deserve to be in the best ever discussion for anything.

After doing a little research, based on statistics, I was wrong about Kobe being the best player of his era. I guess that does go to Tim Duncan so far. However, Kobe is in his prime right now and has a lot of years left to improve his position in the all-time ranks. If he can win another title, and maybe another couple MVPs, then he could very well jump to the top 5 on a lot of people's lists.
