Buddy Ryan and the 46 defense didn’t even make it out of the 80’s (effectively using a zero blitz as a base defense). A lot of mid-80’s concepts were out of play action entirely and that gave the extra time for the 46 to really work. Coaches solved that one pretty quick it just took a season or two to do it.

Yeah, the 85 Bears were basically the Grits Blitz Falcons with a capable offense.
