With that said, why isn't he playing qualifying?
Still trying to figure this one out. There’s no info on Twitter or the tennis sites I follow.
Perhaps he knew he was high on the Alt list, and gambled that he would make it without having to play qualies. That would be some next-level 3D chess.
My guess is, with the WTT final (which his team didn’t reach) being on Sunday, either he didn’t want to chance it, or he was forbidden by his contract.

That’s not really a stretch though. I mean a decade is basically covering his entire prime. Gun to my head, Yes/No wager that he wins a slam in 10 years... I go with Yes.
That said, I would take Rublev to win one before him.

I was able to sneak in Teetsy +4 games at -155. Didn’t realize they were starting so early.
And of course he’s getting obliterated.
Saw a baw with an LSU hat in the 3rd or 4th row.

Not often to see a player dive on hard court

That game was epic. Bad luck for cracka.

I gave up on that bet in the first set. His returns are weak and that 1-hand backhand can’t hold up. It didn’t help that Zverev played better than I’ve ever seen from him.

I’ve barely seen him play.
Watched literally two points today against kudla good lawd he smacks that forehand with intent. Borderline delpo-esque
I’ll DVR TC tomorrow.
What impressed you about him?

It was humblebold*.
His serve isn’t as good as it could be. I’ll assume he’ll be able to improve it over time.
He can’t trade grounders all day with Alex and win, but he’s way better at the net.
I really likes the way he carries himself. Good moxie —competitive and feisty as hell, but still poised. (Alex scores well in those categories too)
More athletic than I realized.
*did I just coin a new term?

Oh shite, rublev plays tonight.

Did you see the part where he hit himself in the head repeatedly?
Posted on 8/4/18 at 3:31 pm to little billy
I saw it too. Perhaps he is poised and a bit nutty.

His game looks like Agassi in the body of a 6'2 scrawny kid. The ball just explodes off his racket on both wings, similar to Chung but more compact. His biggest weaknesses are 2nd serve (my opinion) and mental game (which he said himself). Both are things I feel can be improved over time.
There was a discussion a while back about the perfect height for tennis players. That 6'1, 6'2 range (Fed, Rafa, Joker) is currently optimal. As soon as you start to get out of that range, like with Murray (6'3) and Wawrinka (6'0), there's a little drop off. Rublev could use a little more weight, but at 6'2, he fits the mold. I'm aware that the game is changing though, and guys like Zverev at 6'6 could be the new norm, if their bodies can hold up.
Admittedly I don't watch tennis with the intention of predicting who will be the next #1. It's just such a grind, and there's no way to tell how guys will handle success if/when they reach the top, or close to it.

Manure wins this if it goes 3 sets
Posted on 8/4/18 at 8:12 pm to bayoucracka
6-2 Rublev in the breaker goes to 8-6 cow manure.
Posted on 8/4/18 at 8:34 pm to Bunk Moreland
Yeah Rublev is gassed. Manure covers the court like stink on sh!t.
No excuse to lose that breaker though.

Just wow at Rublev hanging in here.
Posted on 8/4/18 at 9:02 pm to Bunk Moreland
Well, I jinxed it, but Rublev looked dead three or four times in the final set. He still almost took it the distance. I would love to see these guys play in NYC.

You see that point where Minnow hit 4 insane defensive shots in a row? There might not be a video since he lost the point, but I’ll check.
