That was to win the tourney?

Yeah. It was -600 or more vs. Thiem

And now -1000 vs. Grigor. Insane

Do you know your stringer very well? There are some guys who just do it, and there are some that are into the esoterica of strings, tensions and racquets. It helps if your guy (or gal) is someone like this.

I’ve had it done by various people/places. Only a couple have really been into it. One is a local pro who is a friend of mine, so that’s good.

And yeah, my game really took off once I understood rackets and strings more. It seems like common sense, but so many people just play and have no clue.

Thanks for all the info. I’m thinking about getting a stringer myself. There should be enough YouTube vids to get me started on what to do.

Those numbers are insane. Rafa's not gonna lose to Grgs, but I don't love the idea of laying a dime to win a dollar on a guy who had two hip flexor issues recently.

Yeah it clearly seems to be more about age and family than ducking Rafa. Now, if Rafa misses RG for some reason, and Fed all of a sudden shows up... that’s a different story.

I"m not saying it's ducking Rafa. But it's in the ballpark. He's recognizing that he isn't going to win the events and he's not playing them as a result.

I'm sorry, but that's a bitch move. It just is.

To have Fed and Nadal in prime form in the same era has been truly amazing. I'm nostalgic for the game in the 70's, but if you ask me, the last 15 years has been the golden age.

Watching them play when they were in their absolute primes was a pure joy, and still is. Those guys are still fast now, but not as fast as they used to be.

If you play a lot, and If you tend toward tennis nerdism at all, you won't regret this. Yes on YouTube vids, I also had the benefit of knowing some ace stringers as well. Happy to lend any assistance as well.

Was also thinking of doing it for teammates and friends if I don’t get bored out of my mind doing the string work.

Playboy has hung tough in the first set. But, it's just so unfair. Rafa can camp out 10 feet behind the baseline and go into high percentage defensive lockdown mode to where you're going to make an error before him.

I don’t know what’s crazier...

1. Grigor reached +900 at some sportsbooks for a best-of-3 match.
2. 5Dimes offered Grigor +7 games for around -200.
3. I wanted no part of 1 or 2.
4. I wake up to see 4-all in the 1st set and my first thought is a Rafa injury.

This must be what the pinnacle of overreaction is like.

You familiar with Craig O’Shannessy? He’s been suggesting on Twitter that players need to seriously start considering drop serves and other out-of-the-box ideas vs. that play style. At this point, why the hell not?

Funny you make that point. I was just thinking, somebody needs to try a sharp angle thing that doesn't necessarily bring him into net, but at least a little bit forward in the court. I'm not sure who has that game. Mabye someone like a Simon or Tomic. Nole at his peak figured out the angle game to some extent on Rafa, but it's tough to do when balls are kicking up over your head.

Yeah, every idea falls into the easier-said-than-done category, but playing standard tennis has been beyond hopeless for years now.

You’re saying that his game on clay is all defense? I disagree.

A significant part of it with Rafa is sheer mental toughness. He wants it more and is willing to suffer more for each point. He's like a clay court Jesus.

Think he meant that Rafa has that tool in his bag if he ever needs it, a la Djokovic in his prime.
