I disagree with the announcers, no way was Notre Dame about to spike the ball. They had over 30 seconds left with the clock running. A high school team could have gotten off two plays in that time. I think Purdue was wanting to change personnel on the field.

If Notre Dame was about to spike the ball, then Charlie Weiss should have been fired before he got off the plane.

i was thinking the same thing, but then i heard that the coaches on the sidelines were signaling to spike so if thats the case that was one of the worst timeout calls ever.
