what has he done that is smug?
he is always humble after his wins and losses. he's just quiet it seems to me
my old tennis coach (he's slovakian and a little younger than fed so didn't play with him) use to play in junior's tournaments that fed was in, and he said fed cried after every loss he took, and it was much more frequent than now

I am enjoying the match. I actually like Fed but I realize he is one of the cockiest athletes out there who thinks his shite doesnt stink and lets everybody know it. Team Murray for me today, I have been wanting to see him get a slam.

More like, what hasn't he done that is smug? The guy is dripping with smug.
Watch his interviews or read his interview transcripts. Nearly every sentence is a humblebrag. If you would like I can post in a couple for illustrative purposes.

Cocky is the wrong word. Fed isn't cocky at all.
Fed is smug. The word fits him perfectly. It may have, in fact, been created with him in mind.
