JJ Hardy is a definite possibility. i don't think there's any way Baltimore doesn't deal him.

yeah Kemp is there to stay. Is it possible to get him? Absolutely

Will the Braves have to overpay big time? Yep

Hardy is definitely a possibility, and one that I thought of

If we can get him for Alex and a very mid tier prospect, you jump on it

but you don't overpay for a Hardy when he's a FA at the end of the year and he likely won't be resigning with the Braves

This would be a bad idea.

Adam Jones is someone I also thought of but he just doesn't get on base enough, which is what I think the Braves mainly need

someone who's going to produce a solid OBP with a little speed

yeah i tend to agree. everyone thought he would be even better playing in Toronto than he was in Oakland, and he's been a huge disappointment.

But what would we do then? I don't think we have anyone in the farm system who is both ready to come to the majors and capable of succeeding as an every day player once he gets there. We would have to trade for a SS or go the FA route.

I think it's very likely that at the end of the year, we will be looking for a SS to sign to a 1 or 2 year deal max.

which sadly, would probably be Alex.

The Braves think their SS for the future is in the minors right now, and I tend to agree with them. Noone knows just how long it's going to take to wait though.

Are you referring to Salcedo? I don't think Hicks or Pastornicky (spelling?) are those types of players. As for Salcedo...he's probably going to grow into a 3rd baseman. Admittedly, I don't keep up with the farm system all that well, so a lot might have changed over the course of the last year.

for Hardy, I would not give anything other than Alex and someone along the lines of a Mycal Jones

for Adam, I really don't know what I would give.

Orioles aren't going to want Alex in a trade for Hardy with Manny Machado waiting in the wings

There's Tyler Pastornicky who is the closest to being major league ready. Average glove, decent bat, okay speed. I could see him hitting .270, 10-12 homers, 20-25 SB in the bigs. Just a decent player.

You have Andrelton Simmons who has a hose for an arm. Can reach 96 from the mound. But he also needs to work on his glove a bit. I'm high on this kid if he can steadily produce from the plate. With more seasoning, I think he can be a .290 hitter in the bigs. He has no power but does have solid speed. He needs to work on being smarter on the bags though.

Then you have the kid with the highest potential in Lipka, who was our 1st rounder last year. Not much is known about him yet. He's not producing at the plate this year, but it is his first year facing professional pitching. We'll see how he produces but he has the most upside.

Noone really stands out as the next Atlanta SS. One of these guys need to prevail though or we'll be looking from outside the organization for the next 5 or 6 years at least, and that costs money

This was one of my posts from last week. Simmons might be my favorite

Alex is a FA at the end of the year as well. He would just hold their SS position for the rest of the year, while being a much cheaper option for them for the rest of the year.

If that is accurate it looks like Pastornicky will probably get the job next year if we don't re-sign Alex. What level is Simmons at?
