The AL West this year was historic.

To borrow a quote I saw on MLB's website:

"This is the 1st time that 3 teams in the same division were all within half a game or fewer of first place with all having 10 games or fewer left to play, since divisions began (1969)"

Not surprised the Astros were able to weather the storm, considering their recent experience winning big games in crucial situations, but the division this year was damn fun to watch.

The AL West race would have been a lot more interesting during the one Wild Card team era. Having the Wild Card to fall back on for the second place team sort of took out a lot of the fun. The Texas Rangers in particular were never in danger of missing the playoffs during the final week of the season.

I don't mind the 162 game season. Some want to shorten it, but baseball needs that many games to sort itself out.
