Easily baw. The course isn’t that difficult for someone who actually plays golf frequently and doesn’t just watch it on tv. Won’t be putting up professional scores but breaking 100, come on man.

There’s a YouTube golfer that’s a scratch and he went and played Bethpage on the last day the course was open to the public and shot 84. Goes to show how insane the tour pros are

Played it as a +1. It ate my lunch.

Did you break 90?

83 with no penalty shots.
The elevation changes into the greens gave me problems.

How did you putt the greens? Do you remember if you had any 3 putts? And btw, 83 is a very respectable score for that course.

I didn’t find the greens to be any more difficult than other tour-level courses.

3. Found myself a long way from the hole a few times and always seemed to be putting downhill.

The course is hard. I never got comfortable. Always felt like I had too much or too little club. I had a lot of chips/pitches from 20-30 yards due to missing greens. Blocked a couple drives and had to hack out of some deep rough.

Leishman pulled out of the Byron Nelson, likely to play the PGA but not a lock.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect you think you could better 83 if you were to play the course again.

I’d feel more comfortable as far as knowing what to expect. I’m not confident I could shoot better than 83 though. I drove the ball really well that day with the exception of 2 holes. If I had an off day with the driver I could definitely see a 90 happening.

Played the black tees except for a couple of holes that had the tee boxes tarped. We played one tee box up on those holes

You probably couldn't break 100 on the actual course.
I played Congressional a week after the Open - in a Member/Guest. They kept it exactly the same (rough was beyond brutal - greens slick as polished concrete)

I was a 7 hcp at the time. I didn't come CLOSE to breaking 100.

Els won that year. Only 4 players were under par for the tournament.

I think the final 2 foursomes will look about the same as at the Masters. I'll go with Tiger.

Brodie Smith and they played even further than the tips. They played "one foot in the rough at the back of the tee box" it was insane.

He's actually an amazing trick shot frisbee guy too. Or used to be.
