I totally fell for their marketing tonight.

They pitted McGregor with an obviously over matched Siver to hype up the next title fight. They set it in Boston which has a huge Irish population so they could have an overwhelmingly pro-McGregor crowd and then had Aldo or whatever his name is in attendance so they could have that 'confrontation' at the end. It felt like I was watching a WWE match.

I'm not saying the match was fixed but shite that was terrible.

Yeah, I figured but I hardly ever watch UFC so I didn't realize how blatant it was.

he finished him in the 2nd round. Plenty of fights get stopped in the 1st or 2nd round. Every fight that has a finish is obviously a mismatch, right? Every loser is overmatched.

you should've seen his fight back in July in Dublin, Ireland. Talk about a pro-McGregor crowd. Aldo's last fight was in Brazil. Totally pro-Aldo crowd.

Btw, I agree with your post and all of the points you made.

Their goal is to entertain and sell PPVs/tickets. What did you think it was?

But other sports like the NFL and NBA don't have to stir up controversy to get people to watch. They don't mind when it does happen (Sherman last year) but it's not the norm.

I'm not saying the UFC is a bullshite sport or anything but the manufactured rivalries are annoying.

I don't think that every quick fight is a mismatch. One good hit could end a fight fast even among even opponents. But there is no way this fight should've gotten as much hype as it did.

You can't compare combat sports to team sports.

It's their job to hype fights.

The #1 team in the AFC absolutely blew out the #2 team in the AFC Championship Gsme. And it wasn't some lucky 1-punch KO either.

Irish was ranked top 10. 18-2 or something like that.

designated loser had 10 losses coming in. is 36 years old.
last victory was no contest due to drug testing failure, some kind of human growth hormone.

True, but there isn't usually a huge underdog when two top ten teams play.

The Colts were the 4th seed.

Siver is not top 10. Everyone knows he was a stepping stone. It was a fight to build McGregor up before having him go against the top dogs. UFC does this a lot. Promote the new hot item. Give him some favorable matchups to build the record and increase the hype. Then throw him in with the top guys on PPV.

They made it to the AFC championship game. Their seeding is irrelevant at that point.
