That will help a lot, I think.
All the surrounding states are racing states and another outlet for regional talent is usually a good thing

As long as Texas continues to vote NO for casinos and legalized gambling, the horse purses will continue to be lousy. Having said that, there may be some merit to the Penn Gaming interest. Isn't Mark Cuban banking on the state to get casinos? The article is wrong, because Retama Park in Selma also runs thoroughbreds

Why? their horses and meets are garbage. They actually have worse horses than califnoria circuits and that says a lot.

their home breds aren't good, way down on pecking list

I get that 4000 claimers need homes, but another one? Sam Houston is a shitty meet, as is Lone Star.

Valid points. Right now, if you're based out of Texas, it's better off to be running at LAD, Remington, or WRD. Purses are more. The only knock I'd say, is that Texas doesn't have state income tax. Plus, there is no phone bets in the entire state, unless you go the offshore route, but most, if not all don't pay full odds.

Put the crack pipe down Lone Star is a decent meet not shitty at all. Sam Houston may be shitty though.

If Texas ever gets year round racing then Remington Park will be a ghost town because most Of Texas goes there when Lone Star meet ends.

I really like horse racing. It's a shame that casinos have taken away so many dollars from tracks. Used to be that was the only place outside of Las Vegas or Atlantic City where you could go and get on something. Horse racing is exciting if you're in the running for the last 100 yards.

I also love greyhounds. Talk about exciting. 30 second or so races and only about ten minutes between races so there's always action. The only think I don't really like about horses is the 20 to 25 minutes between races. I love watching the tote board and seeing the odds change. Parimutuel betting is the best.

Not since 2019

I think the article indicates Retama park is going to shut down without saying it

And Santa Anita is threatening to close if the state doesn't meet it's demands to shut down racing in Northern California LINK
