The 70's Steelers were loaded with black superstars, so they picked up a lot of black fans. Picked up a lot of Louisiana fans with Bradshaw, and the fact a lot of there games were televised here.

Then, you add the folks who love hardass, smash-mouth football, and it's not hard to see how the Steelers would be a national brand.
