I think morosi wrote an article today where he had a nugget that stated that the marlins and another team actually got somewhere in stanton talks and where exchanging names of who you would go back to Miami before the deadline. Just the sale of the team got in the way

There aren't many teams who want that much money committed for that long a period of time. Especially for a guy who has had a number of injuries

If you could tell me that he was going to opt out then id be fine with it. But I worry about him getting injured, opting in, and then being stuck with the final 7 years

I meant why trade him? I saw where the marlins were looking too, but new ownership will be here in fall, and the marlins have a team in the right direction.

Because he doesn't fit with their timeline. A rebuilding team doesn't want that kind of contract

Who said anything about rebuilding? The marlins are winning team this year if not for rotation injuries and a terrible may.

They may finish the season very close to clinching wildcard the way they're playing right now.

They are a top heavy organization with great players like Stanton, ozuna, amd yellich but not much else. Who is there after that? Bour? Gordon? Maybe realmuto

Hard to do much in free agency when so much of their budget is tied into Stanton, they don't have the internal players to plug holes, and they don't have anywhere near the pitching

They have done well to rebound after a horrible run at the beginning if the year, I just think this is their ceiling. Not to mention that division still has the nats and the Mets still have that rotation if healthy

JT realmuto is one of the best catchers in the game, and dee Gordon won a batting title 2 years ago and is SB machine. They have 6-7 really good players in the field. Bullpen can be good. Just need SP. I just don't wanna see Stanton leave tho.

Does it though? I mean, wouldn't he get that on the open market?

sure. I edited him in. He's a good piece

who doesn't get on base enough to fully utilize the elite speed that he has. He's at what? 34%? That's above average but I would like it if it was higher. I wouldn't call him a future piece going forward but that's just me

and I understand that, and I can see why the marlins would want to hold onto him for the right deal. But I think he needs to get move so they can start building around ozuna, yellich, and realmuto and also gain some flexibility

I don't think he'd get that for 10 years. The money isn't the issue, it's the commitment length imo

10 years is going to be an issue.

And this might not be accurate...

But I feel like it's different if he's your guy and you give him that contract. You want to keep your best players. You want to please fans. shite like that.

Other teams can do that without going out and taking on that contract when they definitely don't HAVE to. If it ever starts to look like a mistake, it'd be a tough pill to swallow knowing you basically made another team's mistake.

ETA: Idk if that came out right, but y'all get my point

Stanton being traded may make sense for the team financially but if they do that right now or this winter then the ownership can just give up on convincing fans it's a new era and move the team.
