They weren't illegal until 1965.

Every cyclist dopes. They have been doing that since the sports inception. I repeat EVERY professional cyclist dopes. Every single fricking one of them. This attempt at pseudo-legitimacy is fricking laughable when the entire culture of cycling encourages athletes to do ANYTHING to win.

Museeuw and Vaughters conceded this but they're trying to change the culture. What would happen if tomorrow, most of the Hall of Fame-type cyclists who are still alive held a joint press conference and did a mea culpa? Riis, Zabel and Museeuw have already done so. What if cyclists of the stature of Merckx, Hinault and Indurain joined their ranks?

LeMond is too much of a sanctimonious jackass to join in the mea culpa. His whole persona now is wrapped up in being the clean cyclist to Lance's dirty one. I don't doubt Hinault and Merckx doped, and no one cares.

All of this is a witch hunt. Tyler Hamilton explained his negative test happened due a vanishing twin who was absorbed in his body as a fetus...quite a reliable witness there. Lemond/Landis becoming best buds trying to incriminate lance after trying to blackmail each other before Landis's trial. Every American cyclist is insanely jealous over lance period.

You sound like you believe Lance when he says he never doped. If you do, you're too naive and ignorant of the sport of cycling to be posting on this thread. Thinking people believe Lance doped, but many of them also believe that USADA overstepped their authority in going after him the way they did.

The Armstrong piling on continues. The IOC is considering stripping away Lance Armstrong's 2000 bronze medal, despite the fact that it's beyond the statute of limitations, which is the excuse they used to give the East Germans a pass when their government-sponsored doping program was made public. Also, the Chicago Marathon is banning Armstrong from this year's race despite the fact that it's an open race which permots tens of thousands of participants who aren't subject to random drug testing.
