That’s a loser mentality. Elite athletes never believe they can’t do something. Whether you accomplish it or not, you have to have that mentality. If you give it your full effort, you won’t lose, no matter the outcome. But if you quit, not only do you lose, you also have to deal with the what if. And the what if can be worse than a loss.
Absolutely

Ah yes, the tried and true ‘Youre not in that position therefore you can’t criticize’ take. The definitive sign of someone that has no idea what the frick they are talking about.

Feel for her, had she done what was expected, she would of gone down as the greatest gymnast of all time. She is still a goat, but this would of put a huge gap between her and the rest.

This really sucks for the other women's gymnasts who have trained thousands of hours and would kill for an opportunity in the Olympics.
No one forced Simone Biles to compete in Tokyo. If she was wary of her mental state, give someone else a shot. Another highly accomplished athlete might have given the US a shot to win team gold.

And another one could have had an opportunity.
This team was built as "Simone Biles and others." If Biles wasn't in a mental state to take that role, they needed to have the opportunity to forge a different team identity and focus on different individual specialties.
It's kind of like how James Harden forced himself into the Milwaukee series this year out of pure selfishness and ego. He was a statue on offense and a complete liability on defense, but he got the pathetic attention he wanted for trotting through an injury in the playoffs.

I remember the media shredding Jay Cutler when he sat out that playoff game with a knee injury. Bunch of freaking hypocrites

Ohhhh, its the "you can't question Miles' coaching decisions because he won a natty" defense.
