re: Rockets make Asik unavailable for tonight

A lottery pick in the 2014 draft is an unreasonable request for a guy who's refusing to play for the Rockets and who's never been an All Star. I like him a lot and would like for the Pelicans to acquire him, but the Rockets are asking a lot right now.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is asking for an “impact player” in talks about the disgruntled big man, but he would settle for a lottery pick, according to Yahoo!’s sources.
I'm 95% sure its impact player OR 1st round pick, which isn't unreasonable at all considering Asik averaged a double-double his first season as a starter. Most NBA draft picks cannot assure a similar output.
Could the Pelicans offer the 2016 top protected pick

So most NBA lottery picks average a double-double? Is that what you're saying? And most lottery picks end up as All-Stars? How could Asik make the All-Star game in his position? Clearly not a flashy player, first year as a starter on a team that had a total of 3 nationally televised games (not all had even been played by ASB), in the west with Howard, Duncan, Nowitzki, Aldridge….so he's not a high value guy just because he doesn't win All-Star votes over those guys? That's not exactly how I would go about making decisions as a GM, by using a fan vote in one season to judge value.

If the Rockets accepted that offer then I'm inclined to think Morey is just trying to rid himself of Asik, but I don't think he's that desperate despite the fact that Asik won't play. Let's be honest though, Asik only screws himself by not playing. Not only will he not play, but teams won't trust his value if they can't see him producing at the level he did last season.

I feel like the Rockets really had no plan for what they'd do with Asik if they got Howard. Ah frick it, we'll figure it out later
Do you even follow the Rockets at all? They were definitely exploring options once they got Howard and you're a fool if you don't think Morey is always looking around. There was nothing they could get for Asik at the time that was worth making a move for. You have to remember, Asik has more value than what he's getting paid. They needed a PF, but there were none available in the off-season that would be of note, and this upcoming FA class has some good PF's in it. He was waiting for the season to start to not only see if the current roster could fit together, but to wait and see if a PF with high value becomes available because some team is afraid of letting him go in FA, or the guy is disgruntled, or because a team is doing so poorly they are rebuilding and just want to clear cap space for the upcoming draft, which is supposedly loaded. They definitely had a plan, but they sure as shite weren't just going to throw his value away just because Asik wanted out. Morey set the CAP up to sign a guy like Howard BEFORE 2012-13. They didn't just luck out and sign him, it was always in the works. He knows what the frick he's doing. He's already fleeced OKC, NYK, and SAC.

Add in a pick and I'll accept to give us more PF depth, but also to add some assets if we want to make another move.

You won't get a pick plus Ilyasova.

What makes you think that? Asik is a much better player at $9 million/yr as a proven starting center , Ersan is at $2.15 million per year. The value isn't there for Mil, they need more than just one guy. Houston would be a fool to make that trade straight up.
Also, Ersan has shown his value as a starter in multiple seasons…Asik had one season with starter's minutes and he improved DRAMATICALLY. He could produce even more if he continues to get starters' minutes. Ersan has not shown similar signs that he could improve dramatically.
