They also found some white powder in a small credit card holder, but decided not to test it. All the physical tools to be a monster, but completely messed up in the head.

I don't think its the drugs.
It is his passive, hippy personality. He's a weird fella with no drive to be great. Recreational drug use is a symptom of that, not the cause.
I blame his older brother Denzel for being such a shitty example for him. Denzel is the one with serious drug issues and uses Robert for his money.
