It's Brees' Sr. year. Before the game they said OSU was the only team he'd not had a TD against. Purdue led 10-6 at the half. Brees has two picks against him in the first half. He'll finish the game 39 of 65 for 455 yards with 3 TD's and 4 picks.

Stats from the game on sports reference

With 1:38 in the third quarter, they're still talking about him not having a TD vs. OSU.

Wonder if Brees would have ended up at Texas or OSU in today's NIL world.

ETA: If you asked him today, I bet he'd say he would have stayed at Purdue. The thought of going back home might have been strong.

Purdue's 1999 game vs. Notre Dame is coming on at 10 AM.

I think we are seeing this play out with QBs with the transfer portal, start out at a lower-tier school get some PT and if you're decent then cash in at a larger school for a season or two.

Personally I think their development is being stunted by switching schools but I am just an old man on a message board.

I agree, and I doubt many of the transfer guys will get a degree when all is said and done.

Did the NCAA quit keeping up with graduation results?

Purdue would have somehow figure out a way to keep him or pay him semi-close to what Texas would more than likely.

Brees also went to Purdue specifically to play in Joe Tiller's offense. Texas was running the "Ricky Williams left/Ricky Williams" right offense at that time.

Brees also seems like a guy who takes passing over him personally and Texas did just that. I also guarantee their arrogance as a program would not allow them to take a 5-11/6' type QB during that era. Almost nobody would back then, that's why he had so few major offers out of HS

Brees vs Tom Brady was more fun IMO.

B10 was pretty good back in those days.

You had Purdue with Tiller/Brees, Michigan with Henson/Brady, Michigan State with Saban/Bill Burke and Wisconsin with Alvarez/Ron Dayne plus Joe Pa at Penn State hanging around winning 9-10 game a year.
