Because obviously there's a direct correlation of minor league playoff wins to winning MLB games

I recognize that winning in the minors may not translate to winning in the majors because the competition level is higher. But if a player is failing in the minors, is it realistic to think they will somehow get it all together in the majors?

How are the Kansas City Royals doing?

Considering that Omaha is the current PCL champion, beating Round Rock and Sacramento (the top two teams in the 2011 PCL season), fairly well. If they only had financial stability, given their weak division they could compete with the talent they have at AAA.

The trading of top prospects to other organizations for Major League players

Two years ago the Rangers were very active in that regard, since they had plenty to deal (Cliff Lee deal). Last year the only notable player they dealt was Chris Davis who was clearly never going to be more than a AAA player, same with Teagarden being traded this year.

Players graduate to the MLB

Again, two years ago the Rangers had great success. Feliz was ROY, Ogando a great set-up reliever, and Mitch solved our 1B problem. But who came up last year with any level of success? This year it's going to be even more important, since we lost a starter to free agency (-17 wins), our ineffective closer is being moved into the starting rotation (Bobby Witt Part II, anyone?) to join Ogando (who was terrible come midseason and never regained it), and Nathan (our new closer) is in his upper 30's and coming off major arm surgery.

Are you saying we don't have a top notch farm system?

It's better than it was. But its obviously not enough to trade for even mid-level MLB talent, outside of getting Baltimore to take our castoffs.

You said...

But part of any player development is showing that, come playoff time, that player can produce. And that is not happening at either AAA Round Rock or AA Frisco (which wasn't even in the playoff race this season), the two highest levels of the Rangers farm system where the majority of the players expected to reach the majors will play.

Highly-rated farm systems have to show that they can do more than produce players with great statistics, they also need to show that the players can contend for playoff berths and, once they obtain them, make a credible showing. Losing twice in the first round of the AAA PCL playoffs and not even making the AA Texas League playoffs (which Frisco has done only once during JD's tenure, 2008) doesn't show that.

My sarcastic remark...

Then you say...

I haven't said other wise and it's you that's correlating a minor league team's win loss percentage to have a large impact on a prospects development and how successful it makes a farm system. How many players you graduate and/or move to make your MLB team better is what matters.

20 year old Ken Griffey Jr. socks 40 long balls in the minors while playing for a non-contending minor league team... no one cares about that. The teams record has zero relevance on that player developing.

I made the KC reference to you to show how much a minor league win/loss rate correlate to how successful your major league team will be. It's about developing players... not winning minor league championships.

Once again, this shows you that you have zero clue on the farm system and the players in it. Robbie Erlin and Joe Weiland were sent to San Diego for Mike Adams. Erlin is a top prospect and Weiland should be a top 100 player in the next BA rankings.

We had a very good team last year... we did not have a need to rush prospects and burn their options. The rotation was set and we made plenty of acquisitions to strengthen the bullpen.

I believe our conversation ends here. There's no point in debating with someone who doesn't have any knowledge whatsoever about the prospect we have on the farm. 2 of the top 10 prospects in all over baseball belong to the Rangers. Yea, they have no trading chips to acquire talent.

Get a clue and if you're going to enter a debate, at least be knowledgeable of it's contents.

The Rangers do not need to trade right now. Outside of starting pitching, the talent is deep. And starting pitching could very easily be better this year. Holland will hopefully mature even more and get some consistency, Feliz may do very well. I got the feeling last year he was bored with his closing role and will embrace being a starter.

Farm level pitching is great for the Rangers as well, with a ton of prospects. And then there is Leonys Martin who could very well be amazing.

Yes, that is why in the last 2 years they have been ranked in the top 10 for farm systems, with their highest ranking being 2. After graduating Feliz, Andrus, Holland, and trading Smoak, they only dropped to number 9. They still have Martin Perez who is rated the 2nd best left handed prospect behind Matt Moore. They still have Jurickson Profar, who at 18 years of age is rated as the 11th best prospect in all of MLB. At 18. He is projected to be way better then Elvis. Ill let that sink in. Both of those players have been asked about in trades because they are so good. They could be traded for a Felix type pitcher. But the Rangers want to keep them. And thats not to mention Mike Olt who has blown up recently, or Tanner Scheppers. The Rangers farm system is very very good, albeit lacking in depth.

Edit: And Profar was selected MVP of the Sally league. At 18 years old. Over the likes of Bryce Harper.
