I disagree when you look at how the teams and core fan bases of college sports are organized.

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but people like that are just tools.

This is the dumbest logic I've EVER read.

I grew up ALL things LSU for 18 years, my entire life.

But I got a schollie to another school, not LSU, so you're saying I should have cut all ties to LSU and became a die hard Nicholls St fan?

EPIC FAIL my friend

This was the exact same thing that happened to me. I went to another school and was ridiculed because I was an LSU fan.

"Why didn't you go to LSU?"

Because it wasn't financially feasible for me to attend LSU at that time.

People need to realize, as I wrote above, to separate collegiate athletic programs from the university as a whole. Meaning, it is perfectly acceptable to root for another school than the one you attended.

Just because I live in Louisiana, doesn't mean I can't be a Miami Dolphins fan. The same thing goes for big time college sports.

Exactly. I'll watch the D3 championship game if there is nothing else on TV and within thirty seconds I'll start cheering for one of the teams for some reason or another.

It doesn't really matter to me. I'm an LSU fan. I don't actively root for any other college team and I don't have a favorite pro team in any sport.

I have only a passing interest in pro sports.

I'm jumping on the Houston bandwagon when James Dickey brings in a couple of Darvin Ham and Jason Sasser-like players for Phi Slama Jama part three.

Don't see the problem with that.

Now this I can agree with you on.

No problem at all with fans of their college big time sports teams if they didn't go to the school.

That said, there's something that strikes me as extremely bandwagonesque about the Duke bball, USC football fans ect that really have no connection at all to the school or even the area. Kind of like Yankees or Red Sox fans that've lived their whole lives in Alabama.

However, it's all the bandwagon fans that make these teams fun to pull against.

people like me always have to pull for someone i will really get into it sometimes espically in games like this and i let it go onto these boards im sure people are just like me

Yeah but there is a difference between that and people who suddenly start referring to the team as "we" and buy 1 or 2 items of merchandise from the team (usually the title they just won shite)

i rooted for college teams long before i gave a shite about LSU

and then you grew up.

Once I grew up I asked myself why am a fan of a team a 1000 miles away. So I stopped and became a Saints fan.

Agreed, growing up I hated all the kids with Yankee/Bulls/Cowboys/Braves shirts and hats but couldn't name any person on the team other than the star. I always hated those teams because of it, still do. With that said, as a kid I grew up loving Duke, and hating UNC, not sure why but I did. So I still cheer for them today. It was always my dream to go there but just wasn't smart enough

I was the same way.

I still hate the Braves, Cowboys and Duke because of all the bandwagon fan friends I had in my youth.

couple things;

1. would bet 90% of those taking offense to your comments are not LSU grads.

2. lsu fans who are alumni >>> lsu fans who are not; no question about it.

My father did not attend LSU, did not attend college at all because he was fighting in Vietnam. He came back to the states, got a job and raised a family.

He listened to every LSU game on the radio, no matter the sport. And when he started earning a decent wage, we started traveling to every LSU home football game.

For 25 years, he never missed an LSU home game. He would still be going, talking about the upcoming season and getting anxious because it never would seem to get here.

He died a couple of years ago and LSU football will never be the same for me without him.

Again, he did not go to LSU. But I damn well bet he was a bigger LSU fan than you will ever be.

So take your condescending bullshite and shove it down your throat. You don't know everything, and you're not as smart and cool as you think you are.

Definitely see your point and there are plenty of examples similar to that. People who are die hard fans but for whatever reason didn't attend the university. However, with that said I think if you did attend a University and graduated from there there is a sense of ownership those other people who did not can never have.

I'm ok with it as long as you have a solid connection with the team.

You grew up in the same state, your dad went there, etc etc

But the people who picked Duke and ND cause they were the teams winning when they were growing up, well they have no soul IMO
