if you owned a McDonald's or a Chick-fil-A franchise that consistently reported absolutely awful numbers year after year after year ... eventually the company is going to step in and either opt for you to sell the franchise or close it down.
A NYU business professor did a breakdown of all the professional baseball teams from traditional business metrics like, P&L, net profit margin, gross margin, ROI, etc. and their conclusion was that the Pirates were far and away the best run organization in the sport. As long as you don't care about on field performance and only financial performance, they are miles ahead of the other franchises. It's why Bob Nutting was only worth $200 million when he became the majority owner of the franchise and is now a multi-billionaire (just passed $2 billion in net worth last year). He's hacked the system and pockets the profit sharing.
The other owners need to get together and either insist that every dollar that comes from profit sharing and luxury tax go to on field spending, or they need to demand it be discontinued.
It's infuriating that Mark Cuban wanted to buy the team and put an offer that was well above market value, over a decade ago. Word was that Nutting was going to accept is. The baseball owners voted to decline ownership to Cuban and blocked the sale of the team. They thought he was going to be too disruptive. Say what you will about him, but he sure as hell would have tried to put a winner on the field.
Sell the team, Bob.

He's no better than Chick Gandil.
They both deliberately put a losing product on the field for financial gain.

We need Skeens and burrow legislation. Cmon Trump

We should demand now that Burrow and Skeens get traded to contenders.

He has the worst owner in all of sports but one of the most loyal fanbases. He'll be outta there soon enough.
