Patriots players last night: Sparkly necklaces on those who didn't suit up for the game

It looked interesting on one (the QB) but many of the others who weren't going to play (no pads or uniforms), were wearing sparkly necklaces of different designs. Why?
In a league that has fined guys for wearing expressive socks and unapproved patches, when does excessive jewelry get a pass?

Ill never understand men caring what other men wear whether it be watches/necklaces/shoes or whatever.
