The coach said it's possible the Pac-16 would push for two automatic bids to the BCS, one for each division champion. That potential bonanza could open the possibility of the two division champs from one league playing for the national title, and it would eliminate the need for a conference championship game.

if they added fresno, hawaii, and boise to the MWC it'd be pretty damn legit IMO

Iowa St. really gets the shaft. Possibly the MAC, WAC, or maybe CUSA. If they are lucky, the MWC

I think if you took these teams

kansas, kansas state, boise, fresno, hawaii, byu, tcu, utah, and then filled in with 4-6 other teams (maybe baylor, iowa state, other wac and mwc teams) you have a pretty damn strong conference on the top end

the bottom of the MWC is still dogshit, and it isn't like Kansas, KState, and Baylor are any good at football. They might actually drag down the MWC's numbers for auto consideration

solid maybe compared to CUSA or the MAC

Are you just going to dump the MWC and start over? I don't think they're going to kick out teams

There's 6 bids... the Big 0 will lose theirs and the Pac 64 most likely wont get two, the MWC deserves the last spot over anyone else, and Ive thought for a few years now, that they deserve a bid over the Big East anyways.

The last piece of auto-consideration is based on the conference computer ratings average being in the top 6.

With the Big 12 going bye-bye, it would take a major step up by the WAC or C-USA to pass the Mountain West for the 6th spot even if Kansas, K-State, and the third team are horrible.

are you kidding?

boise, byu, tcu, utah, kansas, fresno is easily as strong top to bottom as either acc division, the top six of the big east, the present big 12 north. I know they would have to be split but its not like you're talking about shitty programs. The fact that they would then all play each other year in and year out would only make them better IMO.

I agree with St. Aug...

I try to tell people that the MWC is pretty good but noone pays attention nor gives them credit. Those teams would be a pretty decent conference. As I said, I think they're better as of today than the Big East anyways.

New Mt West

Iowa State, TCU, BYU, Col State, Air Force, Baylor, Kansas, KSU

Utah, Boise, Fresno State, Hawaii/or Nevada, San Diego St., UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming

that conference is easily good enough to warrant a BCS bid. Aslo would be very good in Basketball (could rival east coast conferences) and pretty good in Baseball

We'll really know when Boise plays Vatech this year, but just taking the top 6 and ignoring the other shitty teams isn't fair to the conferences you're comparing them to.

I would put this new conference behind the ACC for sure, and thus also behind the Big East

Have to strenuously disagree. The MWC is better than the Big East today... and they wont regress.

one game?

wouldn't you consider beating OU a bigger accomplishment than beating Va Tech?

you're just looking at the top of the MWC and ignoring how fricking horrible the bottom is. One of the criteria for AQ is the average ranking of the teams in the conference. Looking at 2008-2009

1 SEC 38.7
2 ACC 40.4
3 Big East 43.4
4 Big12 45.7
5 Pac10 49.7
6 Big10 50.8
7 MWC 59.9

remember though this isn't just about football

Iowa State, TCU, BYU, Col State, Air Force, Baylor, Kansas, KSU

Utah, Boise, Fresno State, Hawaii/or Nevada, San Diego St., UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming

REALLY strong Basketball conference

Thats just one of the criteria... I understand what you're saying but the MWC is really under appreciated.

Kansas is too good at basketball, and and the national attention it brings in the sport to not get a look from another conference. Depending on how this shakes out, I don't see them going MWC.
