Barons?

As in Oil Barons. Out of this pool, it's my favorite, but they could have done better.

two reasons: 1. Seattle owns the rights to the nickname "Sonics"

2. You can't name your company after a corporation; see, the Memphis Grizzlies who tried to rename themselves the "Express", aka Federal Express. But this move was blocked by the NBA

A few things to consider here in lines of reasoning.

1) One of the new chairmen for the franchise is Aubrey McClendon, who is one of the co-founders of Chesapeake Energy here in OKC. Big time business here in OKC, so that probably has a lot to do with the name "Energy."
2) Anyone who thinks "Cyclones", "Twisters" or anything of that ilk would be a good name is out of their fricking mind.
3) In that regard, "Thunder and Wind" is about the stupidest fricking name I've ever heard.
4) Bison is the mascot of my alma matter, (Oklahoma Baptist)... and there are Bison statues all over the city, so I could see the line of thinking here.
5) I like Barons and Marhsalls both. Barons for the oil connection.
6) The name Sonics would actually be quite fitting, considering Sonic the restaurant was founded in Oklahoma and it's fricking headquarters is literally 2 blocks away from the arena.
7) I personally thought the name "Roughnecks" would be cool.
