What's the story behind her long lay-off? Keep hearing mention of issues with her father, but the commentators kind of just gloss right over it.

roddick/djokovic should be a great match. the last time they played was at the US Open and roddick was a tie-break away from taking it to a 5th set. he appears to be playing much better and seems to be in better shape this year. i wouldn't be surprised if roddick pulls off the upset

Andy and James have played very well.

Monfils/Simon is a nice intra-national matchup.

Great matches the rest of the wya.

fernando verdasco just beat murray in 5 sets, maybe the pressure of being the heavy favorite got to him.

nadal has been extremely lucky so far in his draw. two no name scrubs, then gonzales on the hottest day of the tournament in the heat after gonzo had already played two 5 setters, and now the biggest competition he has left on his side of the bracket is tsonga. i think he's looking like the strong favorite to make it to the finals, which would be his first hard court slam final ever

Verdasco is absolutely on fire...I really wasn't shocked to see him win, despite my Murray pick.

Nadal has been most impressive so far.

On a sad note, Blake just lost in 5 to Tsonga

I almost threw up when I saw that. I can't believe her ankle wasn't worse than it was.

I wish they would move the Austrailian Open here so I wouldn't know the winners three days before I see the match.

he has had by far the easiest draw of the big 4 though, he hasn't really played anyone yet. i don't think simon is capable of beating him so the verdasco/tsonga winner is the only thing standing between him and his first AO final

That Verdasco/Murray match was awesome. The game in the 5th set where Verdasco got even at 3-3, there was one ridiculous rally. It was like watching a boxing match. Verdasco was just firing off haymaker after haymaker, and Murray somehow kept getting to them. Verdasco won the point eventually, but it was incredible. It looked like he just wore Murray down at that point.

Verdasco is playing an incredible level of tennis.

Don't rule out Tsonga. The guy is magical in Australia, and he whipped Blake last night, who was playing his best tennis up until he ran into Jo-Willy.

I still like my Del Potro pick...it feels like that moment. Kinda like when Fed beat Pete Sampras at Wimbledon....it's one of those changing of the guard things. I think Fed wins two or three more, but the talent level in tennis is now too deep for anyone to dominate. The days of 3 majors in one year are over for Fed...2 this year would surprise me.

then again, Fed is a legend and if he turns it on he can't be beaten. I just don't know if he has that switch anymore. Del Potro is better, bigger, younger, stronger than Berdych. Should be a great match, either way. Fed does have the leg up in experience, thats for sure. Del Potro has never taken a set off of him.

Mary Carillio says it best....the Australian Open always has the best men's matchups from round 1 to the championship. There's great matches every day...it's really amazing.

fed has never dropped a set to del potro, i'm expecting this to be much closer though. i'm hoping that the ladies match ends quickly so i can stay up and watch it. being on the west coast makes it a little easier to catch some of these late night/early morning matches

I have 730 class but I may say screw it and stay up. I really really want to see these matches, and preferably not on replay.

Yeah, but the degree of ease which he has had compared to say, Federer as a 2 seed, has been a bit out of normal proportion

obviously, but he's also gotten pretty lucky with a few things. one is catching gonzo in a day match on the hottest day of the tournament after he had already played 2 five set matches. another is having monfils, gasquet, and murray all knocked out before he faced any of them. stylistically monfils would have a much better chance of upsetting nadal than simon will. monfils actually beat him in straight sets a few weeks ago
