From Mark Stein:

Would have been epic. This attempted move could hint at what will come during the summer - a sign and trade for someone like Bosh...
quote:
Just filed to ESPN.com: Houston indeed the team that engaged in 11th-hour discussions with Suns on Amare deal. New link/details forthcoming
quote:
The proposed deal, sources with knowledge of the talks confirmed, had Phoenix receiving veterans Shane Battier and Luis Scola, multiple draft picks and the expiring contract of Brian Cook for Stoudemire.
quote:
But the source said Phoenix wanted to waive the requisite physical examinations for the players involved to make sure the trade went through in time, only for Houston to refuse because of Stoudemire's injury history.

i see you updated the Houston/Amare trade... that would have been AMAZING
hate to see both scola/landry move but if it nets an Amare or Bosh...then I could live with it

Yeah, imagine...
Yao
Amare
Ariza
Martin
Brooks
And you just knew Morey was cooking something up with those draft picks and 2011 expiring contracts. Can't wait to see what he does during the summer.
Logically, it was probably best that he didn't go through with the trade so hastily though. Not only would we need him to pass the physical (we could have three injury prone stars), but we'd need him to agree to an extension so that we wouldn't wind up empty handed this offseason if he left.

Watch out this summer

Host: but you wont have a lot of cap space this offseason will you? you have to resign your players right?
DM: we are not out of the tier 1 free agents even though they are long shots. we are actually better positioned now than we were before this trade. free agents who sign with other teams have to give up about $30 million, and not many players will want to do that. we may see it this year but not many do that. more likely those players move in a sign and trade. by picking up a lot of assets like picks and a good roster, we could get something done in sign and trade. most of the top tier guys move in sign and trade because of the dollar difference to the player.
