"yea lets feed our second best offensive player and have him shooting fadeaways all game". Our best player, you just stand over there in he corner.
Kawhi shoots more, makes more, and is more efficient but I'm crazy for saying he's better!!!!
Poor Boom, bless his heart.

You still see vestiges of the Beautiful Game Spurs when the second unit is in, for the reasons stated above. But above all, Pop is about efficiency on the offensive end. For this matchup it is better to ride the hot hand(s). That might change if SA makes it to the WCF and faces GS.
Thanks for reaffirming that their play style has changed. I don't think it'll change too much if they meet GS, because what the Spurs are doing now definitely favors them with a slower tempo and getting Draymond and the other GS bigs more involved on defense.
I'm not saying anything is wrong with how Pop has them playing but it is clearly different than what I'm used to seeing from them. It's working so far.
I will stand by my statement that they will not win the title if Pop continues to abuse Aldridge.

I wasn't arguing otherwise. It's pretty obvious.

Exactly. Pop goes with what works. Not really married to a particular style of play. Even during the mostly plodding Spurs offensive days in the mid 2000s, he'd be quick to go uptempo in the playoffs against, say, the Mavs or the SSoL Suns. He tries to be as adaptable as possible.

Disagree with you there. LMA is accustomed to high usage rates from his PDX days. His minutes this season were way down from what they were most of his career, so he's fresher than usual this time of year. He's more than capable of being the main cog in the machine, I think.
That's not to say that SA will win the title, but if they don't, it won't be from "abusing" Aldridge.

Pop is a smart man so I'm sure he has plenty of tricks up his sleeves, my only concern is that I feel like it makes it easier for the right team to game plan against that. So how quickly can the Spurs players adjust their style of play after being used to what they have been doing the entire playoffs. It's also how they beat GS during the regular season if I remember correctly.
OKC obviously doesn't matchup well so Spurs have some of their work cut out for them. It's really hard to judge their first round series because Memphis was woefully out matched and the only team they would've had a chance against in the playoffs is Houston.
I'm confident Spurs and GS meet next round and it will be awesome to watch Kerr and Pop battle each other out. I hope I'm not disappointed.

Mainly beat GS with defense/pacing, but I understand where you're coming from.
Like you said, though, Pop always has some tricks up his sleeve. SA has changed their style of play mid-playoffs pretty seamlessly in the past. Guess we'll see what Pop thinks will work.

Should be a terrific chess match if it happens! Big fan of Kerr so I won't be disappointed either way.

Yea and Aldridge was the focal point of the pacing, setting up 1-on-1's in the paint. I think he had a game high 25 shots, 11/25. Akin to how LeBron slowed the game down in the finals, obviously not exactly the same. Then the next game against GS he played considerably less minutes but didn't shoot well at all. It's all semantics though, you know where I'm coming from. It's all pretty intriguing nonetheless.

I know this isn't the game thread for the day but JV has been pretty damn good in the post season

I agree. Honestly I kind of threw out the Spurs/GS matchups in my mind--lot of gamesmanship going on by both coaches in all 4 of those matchups
Somehow I doubt many of the games in a potential series will resemble the regular season tilts.
