That's why I think it was all a ploy by Belichek to trade Moss to a team that he though could beat the Jets and get a draft pick, have Randy act like an arse to get cut and have no team want to take a shot at him midseason so that he'd clear waivers, just so he'll wind up back in New England.

New England is the last team to pick up players on waivers (because their record is the best in football right now)
They were not going to re-sign him for a big contract extension and they were not going to get him back on waivers - him saying good things about the Patriots after leaving is nice gravy but the Moss era in New England is likely done IMO

If the Vikes were concerned about Percy Harvin, they'd keep Moss on the field so that he can draw double coverage and let Harvin run free. Percy Harvin had the best 3 game stretch of his career thanks to Moss demanding double teams.
